Requires certain athletic trainers and certain coaches of interscholastic sports, cheerleading and dance programs, and collegiate sports to complete student-athlete eating disorder training program developed by Commissioner of Education.
This bill requires coaches and athletic trainers in New Jersey public schools (middle/high school sports, cheerleading, dance) and public colleges to complete a state-developed training program on student-athlete eating disorders. The training covers identifying symptoms, prevention strategies, available services, and referral protocols for students showing signs of eating disorders. Coaches and trainers must complete the program initially within six months of the program's launch and every two years thereafter. Public school boards and college governing boards must also adopt protocols for addressing suspected eating disorders, including notifying parents and connecting students with support services. The training program will be developed by the Commissioner of Education within 120 days of the bill's effective date.
