Requires registered voters present identification when voting.

This New Jersey bill (A 536) requires voters to present specific forms of identification at polling places during elections. Acceptable IDs include a New Jersey driver’s license, REAL ID card, state ID, passport, military ID, or voter registration card. If a voter doesn’t show ID or the ID doesn’t match their registration, election officials may challenge their eligibility, but the bill states this does not deny the voter the opportunity to establish their right to vote. The bill would take effect January 1, 2022, if enacted.
