A 3397 New Jersey General Assembly · 2026-2027 Regular Session

Expands scope of practice for licensed acupuncturists.

This bill expands New Jersey's licensing rules for acupuncturists to allow them to perform additional diagnostic tests (like ordering X-rays and hormone saliva tests) and use new therapeutic methods. Licensed acupuncturists can now prescribe and administer certain substances - including homeopathic medicines, saline, vitamins, and sterile injectables - under "expanded practice," and may perform injection or IV therapy if certified. Existing practitioners with approved national certification (e.g., from the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine) are automatically deemed certified for these expanded services. The changes apply to new license applicants and renewals starting October 1, 2026.
