Requires AOC, in conjunction with State Parole Board, to conduct comprehensive study on Megan's Law.
This bill (S 4962) requires the Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) and the State Parole Board to conduct a comprehensive study on Megan's Law implementation. The study must examine how sex offender registration, tier designations, and community notification procedures are applied across New Jersey, including the effectiveness of the public internet registry. It will analyze all registered sex offenders' cases since Megan's Law began, assess geographic inconsistencies in public notifications, and evaluate whether a central agency should manage the law. The AOC and Parole Board must submit findings and recommendations to the Governor and Legislature within 12 months, with biannual updates thereafter. This study replaces a previous unfulfilled mandate and aims to standardize procedures for public safety.
