To qualify, medication aides must first be certified as nurse aides, homemaker-home health aides, or personal care assistants, complete a department-approved medication administration training course, and pass a standardized exam. Certification would be valid for two years, with renewal requiring 10 hours of continuing education (including 5 hours on medication administration fundamentals and 5 hours on medication use for elderly patients).
