Authorizes certain federal law enforcement officers to make arrests for violation of NJ law.
This bill (S 3671) expands New Jersey law to allow specific federal law enforcement officers to make arrests for violations of New Jersey law. It adds Naval Criminal Investigative Service agents, Air Force Office of Special Investigations agents, Army Criminal Investigation Division agents, Coast Guard Investigative Service agents, and Defense Department Office of Inspector General agents to the list of federal officers already authorized to arrest for serious crimes (first, second, or third degree) they witness occurring. These officers must already be empowered to carry weapons and make arrests under federal law. The bill does not change existing arrest authority for federal officers like FBI agents or Secret Service agents, but simply adds these new federal units to the list.
