A 993 New Jersey General Assembly · 2024-2025 Regular Session

Concerns payment of leave time to employee in year of employee's retirement.

This bill limits how much unused leave time (vacation, sick, personal, or holiday time) local government employees can receive upon retirement or separation. It requires payments to be prorated based on the actual days worked in their final calendar year, rather than paying for the full year's leave if the employee retired early. For example, an employee retiring after only one month would only receive payment for that one month's leave, not the full year's entitlement. The bill applies to all local units (municipalities, counties, and their agencies) and any collective bargaining agreements governing these payments.
