This bill amends New Jersey's unemployment benefits law to protect individuals who left work due to being detained for criminal charges that were later dismissed. It applies to people detained for charges dismissed through a decision not to prosecute, grand jury not indicting, or a not guilty verdict. The Department of Labor must determine the individual was unavailable solely due to these dismissed charges, in which case they cannot be denied benefits for that week. Employers will not be charged for these benefits, ensuring individuals cleared of charges don't lose unemployment benefits due to circumstances beyond their control.
