Permits hiring police officers prior to taking training course.

New Jersey's A2373 bill allows municipal and county police departments to hire new officers as probationary staff before they complete the required basic police training course. These officers must finish the training within nine months (with possible six-month extensions for specific scheduling reasons) and will be promoted to full entry-level officers upon completion. Departments must adopt a resolution authorizing the hire and implement a conflict of interest policy. The bill exempts these hires from taking the standard civil service examination for entry-level positions.
