This bill expands New Jersey's DNA collection requirements to include human trafficking, arson, and car-jacking offenses. It mandates DNA samples for individuals convicted of these crimes (or arrested for them) on or after January 1, 2023, whether sentenced to prison, probation, or other supervision. Specifically, it requires samples upon imprisonment start, as a condition of non-incarceration sentences, or before parole/release for prior offenders. The law also applies to those arrested for these offenses before conviction, requiring DNA collection before release from custody.
