Interim study to examine how current residential building codes affect the cost of rehabilitating older properties and if changes need to be made to such codes to lessen the cost of rehabilitation

This legislative resolution directs the Urban Affairs Committee to conduct an interim study on how current residential building codes impact the cost of rehabilitating older homes. The study will examine whether existing codes are appropriate for older properties, assess if certain code versions ensure safety without causing unnecessary cost increases, and review alternative rehabilitation codes used by other states. It will also look at local or state ordinances that might add to rehabilitation expenses and will consult with housing industry stakeholders. The committee will submit its findings and recommendations to the Legislative Council or Legislature upon completion.
