Interim study to examine the concentration and impact of nonprofit organizations in historically marginalized communities, specifically North and South Omaha

This legislative resolution (LR 165) directs Nebraska's Urban Affairs Committee to study nonprofit organizations in North and South Omaha - historically marginalized communities - to understand their geographic density, economic impact, and alignment with community needs. The study will examine how nonprofits interact with local businesses, funding sources, governance structures, and whether their work supports sustainable growth or unintentionally limits community-led solutions. It aims to assess if current nonprofit activities foster trust and opportunity or reinforce dependency in these neighborhoods. The committee will report findings and recommendations to the Legislature after completing the study.
