Constitutional amendment revising selection of supreme court justices

This bill proposes a constitutional amendment to change how Montana Supreme Court justices are selected, shifting from direct election to a system where the governor appoints justices from a list of nominees. The selection process would involve a nomination committee made up of legislative leaders and two attorneys who provide between three and five candidates to the governor, who must then appoint one within 60 days. If the committee fails to submit enough nominees, the governor would choose from a list of 10 candidates selected by lottery. All appointed justices would still need Senate confirmation and would serve only until the next election, at which point they must run for election to continue serving.
