Creates a voluntary process for an individual to restrict the individual's ability to purchase a firearm

This bill establishes a voluntary program allowing individuals to temporarily restrict their own ability to purchase or possess firearms for up to six months. Under the new process, a person can submit a form directly to their local circuit court to have their name added to a temporary restricted list, which immediately updates the state's background check system to block firearm sales. The restriction lasts for a minimum of thirty days and automatically expires after one hundred eighty days unless the individual requests an extension, and it also suspends any existing concealed carry permits held by the person. Once the time period ends or the individual requests removal, the court must delete the record from the background check system and destroy all related files.
