HB 2264 Missouri House · 2024 Regular Session

Requires counties to provide for semiannual payments of current and delinquent personal property taxes

HB 2264 requires county governments to offer taxpayers the option of paying current and delinquent personal property taxes in two installments throughout the year. Under this bill, counties must allow these semiannual payments at the taxpayer's choice, while still permitting counties to set their own rules for how estimates are made and how interest is charged on missed payments. The law also clarifies that making installment payments does not stop a taxpayer from contesting the tax amount and excludes financial institutions that handle taxes from escrow accounts from these requirements. This change directly affects property owners in counties that adopt the new payment schedule, giving them more flexibility in managing their tax bills.
