Requires hearing screenings for students

This bill requires all public, private, and religious schools to conduct hearing screenings for students enrolling in kindergarten or first grade starting in the 2025-26 school year. Schools must inform parents about the screening program before August 1st and ensure the screening happens before November 1st, with flexibility for schools to conduct the test themselves, hire a provider, or ask parents to arrange it. If a screening suggests a need for special services, the school board must perform further assessments, while students with a recent doctor's exam within the last year are exempt. The state education department will work with health officials to create a model screening program that districts can use to meet these requirements.
