HB 1596 Missouri House · 2024 Regular Session

Adds provisions relating to a landlord failing to remedy a condition that would materially affect the health and safety of a tenant

This bill requires landlords to begin fixing serious health and safety issues, such as pest infestations, mold, or roof leaks, within 30 days of receiving written notice from a tenant. If a landlord fails to start repairs within that timeframe, they become financially responsible for any resulting health care costs and other damages suffered by the tenant. The law also mandates that a licensed inspector must verify the repairs are complete before the landlord is considered to have fulfilled their obligations.
