Modifies provisions relating to corporal punishment in schools

HB 1581 prohibits the use of corporal punishment and spanking in all school districts and requires these districts to distribute their updated discipline policies to students and parents at the start of each school year. The bill mandates that school administrators report specific serious crimes, such as murder, assault, and drug offenses, to law enforcement and notify teachers and staff with a "need to know" about acts of school violence. Additionally, the law requires that students suspended for violent or drug-related offenses be barred from being within one thousand feet of any school property unless they are directly supervised by an adult or live within that distance. School employees must also receive annual training on the new discipline policies and procedures for handling student violence.
