Fire trucks; authorize granting of a one-time service life extension if maximum service life reached under certain conditions.

HB 1501 would allow Mississippi municipalities and fire protection districts to extend the service life of fire trucks beyond the standard 20-year limit by up to five years, if the vehicles pass strict safety inspections. To qualify, trucks must pass annual mechanical and safety checks (including brakes, pumps, and structural integrity) certified by a state-approved inspector, meet State Fire Marshal safety standards, and not have previously received an extension. The bill is optional - governing bodies decide whether to apply - and would take effect July 1, 2026. However, the bill died in committee on February 3, 2026, and is not currently active.
