What changed between versions
Establishes a 15-day in-person early voting period beginning 15 days before each election and ending at 12:00 p.m. on the Saturday immediately preceding election day.
Requires all in-person early voting to occur only at registrar offices during regular business hours, with extended hours available during the last full week preceding an election.
Amends existing absentee voting sections to require that absentee ballots cast in person at registrar offices be deposited in sealed ballot boxes and not taken to polling locations on election day.
Prohibits voting via ballot harvesting, ballot drop boxes, and mail-in or absentee ballots except for reasons specifically allowed by the Mississippi Election Code.
Defines 'ballot harvesting' as knowingly collecting and transmitting another person's ballot outside of exceptions, and 'ballot drop boxes' as unsupervised receptacles for returning ballots.
Requires notice of in-person early voting hours to be posted in three public places at least eight days before voting begins.
Establishes procedures for challenging voter qualifications during the early voting period and requires votes cast during early voting to be tabulated simultaneously with election day votes.
