United States Citizenship Test; require as a condition for high school graduation.

SB 2184 would require Mississippi public high school students (and GED candidates) graduating after the 2025-2026 school year to pass the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services civics test, answering at least 80% of the 100 questions correctly, as a condition for graduation. This test would be integrated into the state's required U.S. History curriculum, covering American history from Jamestown's 1607 settlement to the present. The bill exempts students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and prohibits schools from charging fees for administering the test. However, the bill died in committee on February 4, 2025, and is not currently law.
