Counties; remove authority to charge municipalities for the housing of pre-trial detainees in county jails.

HB 846 would have removed Mississippi counties' authority to charge municipalities for housing, feeding, and caring for people held in county jails before trial. Currently, counties could bill cities up to $15 per day per detainee under Section 19-25-73. The bill specifically amended this law to eliminate such billing power. However, the bill died in committee on February 4, 2025, and did not become law.
