HB 71 Mississippi House · 2025 Regular Session

Property and casualty insurance; require blighted real property to be cleaned up before insurer pay insured certain amount.

HB 71 requires property insurers to ensure blighted (neglected or derelict) real property is cleaned up before paying insured property owners up to 90% of covered damage claims. The remaining 10% of damages must be paid by the local county or municipality where the property is located. The Mississippi Insurance Commissioner would enforce this rule and create necessary regulations. The bill, which died in committee in February 2025, would have taken effect July 1, 2025, if passed.
