HB 1072 Mississippi House · 2025 Regular Session

PERS; allow retirees to work as law enforcement officer for another employer and draw retirement allowance and work full time.

HB 1072 would allow retired Mississippi law enforcement officers who are members of the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS) to work full-time for a new employer (not their previous employer) in a law enforcement role while still receiving their full retirement benefits. Currently, retired PERS members are generally restricted to working half the normal workweek or earning no more than 25% of their prior salary without reducing retirement payments. This bill specifically creates an exception for law enforcement retirees, removing those limitations for this job category. The change would take effect on July 1, 2025, if enacted.
