SB 270 provides civil immunity to individuals who use or threaten to use force in self-defense or defense of another, as long as their actions comply with the state's self-defense act. This means they cannot be sued for damages, such as personal injury or death, by the person against whom force was used or by related claimants. The bill establishes a presumption of immunity if criminal charges concerning the use of force were not filed or resulted in acquittal or dismissal. If sued, individuals found to have acted in lawful self-defense and to be immune will be awarded attorney fees, court costs, and other expenses.
