Education: teachers and administrators; interim teaching certification process; modify. Amends sec. 1531i of 1976 PA 451 (MCL 380.1531i).

This bill modifies Michigan's interim teaching certification process to establish specific requirements for individuals seeking to teach in public schools without a full teaching certificate. It mandates that candidates complete an intensive training program equivalent to at least 12 college credit hours covering child development, instructional strategies, and classroom experience, while also requiring a bachelor's degree and passing subject area exams. A key provision restricts the issuance of interim certificates for special education teaching after July 21, 2027, unless the individual already holds one, and requires additional specialized training for those teaching special education. Holders of these interim certificates must receive intensive observation and coaching from their school districts while making satisfactory progress toward earning a full Michigan teaching certificate.
