Health: medical waste; containment of medical waste; modify. Amends secs. 13809 & 13810 of 1978 PA 368 (MCL 333.13809 & 333.13810).

This law updates rules for how facilities in Michigan must handle and store medical waste. It requires businesses that do not burn waste on-site to keep it in sealed, labeled containers, separate it from regular trash, and limit storage to 90 days unless it is in a partially full sharps container. Facilities that incinerate waste on-site must follow similar labeling and storage limits while also disposing of sharp objects according to specific guidelines. These changes apply to any producing facility that generates medical waste and aims to prevent leaks, contamination, and unauthorized access.
