SB 226 Michigan Senate · 2023-2024 Regular Session

Environmental protection: air pollution; asbestos emissions program for demolition or renovation activity; require annual report on sufficiency of number of inspectors. Amends 1994 PA 451 (MCL 324.101 - 324.90106) by adding sec. 5519b.

This bill requires the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy to submit an annual report by March 1 detailing the state's asbestos inspection program. The report must include data on the number of inspectors, inspections conducted, and enforcement actions, along with an assessment of whether the current staff level is sufficient to handle all demolition and renovation requests. To determine sufficiency, the department must evaluate if it inspects at least 15% of the original notices received for such activities. Once prepared, the report will be made available on the department's website and in the official state register, with the option to combine it with other existing reports.
