SB 1178 Michigan Senate · 2023-2024 Regular Session

Recreation: state parks; veteran or actively serving military status; make basis for free state park and public boating access site entry. Amends secs. 74116 & 78119 of 1994 PA 451 (MCL 324.74116 & 324.78119).

This bill allows Michigan residents who are honorably discharged veterans or currently serving military members to enter state parks and public boating access sites for free without paying the standard recreation passport fee. To use this benefit, the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs would verify the individual's status and issue a special hangtag or sticker that they must display on their vehicle. The law also maintains existing rules requiring nonresidents to purchase permits and residents to pay fees unless they qualify for other specific exemptions like free fishing days.
