SB 1134 Michigan Senate · 2023-2024 Regular Session

Weapons: firearms; sale, manufacture, or possession of a firearm disguised to resemble a toy; prohibit. Amends 1931 PA 328 (MCL 750.1 - 750.568) by adding sec. 224g.

This bill prohibits the sale, purchase, transfer, ownership, possession, carrying, or transport of firearms that are disguised to look like toys or other non-firearm objects. It also bans modifying existing guns to create such deceptive appearances and restricts the use of products designed to change a firearm's color to make it less recognizable. The law defines a "deceptively colored" firearm as one where more than half of its exterior or its receiver and slide are painted in colors other than black, brown, dark grey, dark green, silver, steel, or nickel. Exceptions are made for government entities, antique firearms, and individuals who already own these items before the law takes effect, provided they surrender or modify them within 14 days. Violating these rules is classified as a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail, a fine of up to $500, or both.
