Family law: marriage and divorce; persons authorized to solemnize marriage; modify. Amends sec. 7 of 1846 RS 83 (MCL 551.7).

This bill amends Michigan's marriage laws to formally recognize "civil celebrants" as authorized individuals who can officiate weddings. To qualify, a civil celebrant must be at least 18 years old and agree to perform the ceremony according to the couple's wishes. The legislation also clarifies the roles and fee collection responsibilities for mayors and county clerks when they solemnize marriages. Finally, the bill includes a provision stating that it will not take effect unless a separate related bill is also passed into law.
