SB 1006 Michigan Senate · 2023-2024 Regular Session

Health facilities: hospitals; hospitals stocking intrauterine devices; require and require hospitals to offer intrauterine devices to certain patients. Amends 1978 PA 368 (MCL 333.1101 - 333.25211) by adding sec. 21525.

This bill requires hospitals with maternity units to offer intrauterine device implants to patients giving birth, provided the procedure is not medically contraindicated. It mandates that these facilities maintain a sufficient stock of the devices to meet this requirement. The law applies specifically to individuals delivering babies in Michigan hospitals who wish to use this form of contraception immediately after birth.
