HB 6260 Michigan House · 2023-2024 Regular Session

Family law: child support; payment of child support for a nonbiological child; modify in the family support act. Amends sec. 2 of 1966 PA 138 (MCL 552.452).

This bill modifies Michigan's Family Support Act to clarify that courts cannot order a parent to pay child support for a child they do not biologically father. It also updates rules regarding the retroactive start date of child support orders, limiting them to the filing date unless the other parent avoided legal service, used domestic violence to prevent filing, or otherwise delayed the process. Additionally, the legislation requires courts to include specific provisions for medical expenses related to pregnancy and birth, and mandates that support orders include custody and parenting time arrangements when there is no dispute, or temporary provisions when a dispute exists.
