Civil procedure: personal protection orders; instances in which a personal protection order may be issued; modify. Amends secs. 2950 & 2950a of 1961 PA 236 (MCL 600.2950 & 600.2950a).

This bill modifies Michigan's personal protection order laws to clarify who can petition for an order and what specific behaviors are prohibited. It allows individuals to seek protection against spouses, family members, dating partners, or anyone with whom they share a household or child, covering acts such as entering premises, assaulting the petitioner, threatening violence, removing children, or possessing firearms. The legislation also expands protections to include interference with employment or education, stalking, and harming or threatening a pet owned by the petitioner. Additionally, the bill requires courts to provide written reasons for denying an order and prohibits the issuance of mutual orders unless both parties independently petition for them.
