Elections: petitions; filing requirements for congressional candidates; modify. Amends secs. 93, 94, 98, 133, 134 & 138 of 1954 PA 116 (MCL 168.93 et seq.).

It requires that these petitions be signed by registered voters from at least half of the state's congressional districts for Senate races and from the specific district for House races, while also allowing candidates to pay a filing fee instead of gathering signatures. The legislation extends the deadline for submitting these documents from the twelfth Tuesday before the primary election to the fifteenth Tuesday before the primary. Additionally, it clarifies the strict conditions under which a candidate who has officially filed a petition or paid a fee may withdraw from the race.
