Insurance: health insurers; limit amount on co-pay for prescription insulin; provide for. Amends 1956 PA 218 (MCL 500.100 - 500.8302) by adding sec. 3406z.
This bill requires health insurance companies in Michigan to limit the co-pay or coinsurance for insulin to a maximum of $35 per 30-day supply. The rule applies to all major types of insulin, including rapid-acting, long-acting, and premixed varieties, but only for products specifically chosen by the insurer. While the law sets this $35 cap, it allows insurers to charge less or to impose higher fees for insulin types they do not select. The changes will take effect for insurance policies delivered or renewed after December 31, 2025.
