An Act protecting students abroad

This bill requires Massachusetts secondary and postsecondary institutions offering study abroad programs to prioritize student health and safety. Institutions must conduct risk assessments, maintain written emergency plans for each destination, and track incidents like injuries, assaults, or crimes occurring during programs. They must file annual reports by November 1st with details on hospitalizations, sexual assaults, and other incidents, including dates, locations, and the primary program host. The Secretary of the Commonwealth will publish these reports online alongside State Department safety resources, making program safety data publicly accessible to prospective students before they travel.
