An Act expanding loan repayment assistance for primary care physicians

This bill expands loan repayment assistance for primary care physicians in Massachusetts. It adds family physicians, internal medicine doctors, pediatricians, and obstetricians/gynecologists to the existing program, making them eligible for loan repayment. To qualify, physicians must work with significant public payor patient populations (as defined by the Department of Public Health), have outstanding education debt, not use other loan programs, and sign a 4-year contract with the state. The program also specifies that part-time workers receive pro-rated assistance. The Executive Office of Health and Human Services must issue implementing regulations within three months of the bill's effective date.
