An Act promoting the civil rights and inclusion of American Muslims in the Commonwealth

This bill establishes a permanent 11-member commission to address issues affecting American Muslims in Massachusetts. The commission, appointed by state leaders including the governor, legislative leaders, and civil rights committee chairs, will research community concerns, educate government and the public, foster community unity, and advise on policies impacting American Muslims. It must annually report findings and recommendations to the governor and legislature. The commission will assess state agency programs, recommend qualified appointees for government roles, and serve as a liaison between government and Muslim American organizations.
