An Act relative to smart meters

This bill allows electric customers to choose not to participate in advanced metering infrastructure programs by notifying their utility provider. If a customer opts out, the utility company must remove them from the implementation plan and report this decision to the state department. The bill also permits utilities to charge customers who opt out reasonable fees for providing non-advanced metering services, but these fees must follow a uniform statewide rate set by the department and applied consistently across all utility companies.
