H 1951 Massachusetts House · 194th Legislature (2025-2026)

An Act ERPO Study Commission

This bill creates a 7-member commission to study Massachusetts' existing extreme risk protection order (ERPO) law. The commission includes the firearms bureau director (as chair), the attorney general, two appointed experts in firearm safety/law (one by House speaker, one by Senate president), a governor-appointed member, a representative from Gun Owners Action League, and a police chief selected by the state police chiefs' association. The commission must examine how effectively ERPOs are used, their frequency, and case outcomes, then submit a report by February 28th each year. This study aims to inform future policy decisions about ERPOs but does not change current law or directly affect any specific group.
