S 2229 Massachusetts Senate · 193rd Legislature (2023-2024)

An Act relative to partial payment of fines relating to driver’s license suspension or revocation

This bill allows drivers in Massachusetts who owe fines for multiple license suspensions or revocations to pay those fees in monthly installments rather than all at once. Under the new rules, eligible individuals can set up a payment plan with a minimum monthly payment of $25, which can be made via credit card, debit card, check, or money order. If a driver makes their first payment and meets all other requirements, the registrar will issue a conditional reinstatement of their license, but this status will be revoked if a payment is more than 30 days overdue. Once all fees are paid in full, the license will be fully reinstated provided the driver remains otherwise qualified.
