S 1655 Massachusetts Senate · 193rd Legislature (2023-2024)

An Act to reform sick leave buybacks

This bill limits the amount of unused sick leave that state employees and public university staff can accumulate to a maximum of 1,000 hours. Under the new rules, workers who currently have less than this cap will be able to keep their existing balance, while those with more will stop accruing additional hours but can still use their current leave. The legislation requires relevant government departments to update their official policies to enforce this new ceiling on sick leave credits.
