S 1639 Massachusetts Senate · 193rd Legislature (2023-2024)

An Act correcting pension inequity for James G. Clothier

This bill allows James G. Clothier to pay a specific fee to add ten years of teaching service from his time working in New York State to his Massachusetts retirement record. The legislation authorizes the Teachers' Retirement Board to accept this payment even though Clothier is already receiving a pension from a New York retirement system. Once he makes the payment, the added service will be treated as if he bought it in 1998 and will be used to calculate his retirement benefits retroactively to his 2002 retirement date.
