An Act relative to community college tuition
This bill creates the Massachusetts Workforce Opportunity Scholarship to help high school graduates and GED recipients attend public community colleges in the state. To qualify, students must enroll full-time within five years of graduating high school and maintain a 2.0 grade point average while completing coursework continuously, with limited exceptions for approved leaves of absence. The scholarship covers the cost of tuition and mandatory fees at designated community colleges after subtracting any other scholarships the student receives, and recipients are required to participate in mentoring and community service programs. The Massachusetts Office of Student Financial Assistance will manage the program and report annually on student success and retention rates to the state legislature.
