An Act to protect against deep fakes used to facilitate criminal or torturous conduct
This bill establishes the Massachusetts State Deepfake and Digital Provenance Task Force to address the risks of artificial intelligence-generated fake content. The Governor and legislative leaders will appoint a diverse group of experts, including industry professionals, legal specialists, and consumer representatives, to meet by July 1, 2023. This team will investigate how deepfakes affect government operations, businesses, and voters, while exploring ways to verify the authenticity of digital media through technical standards and public education. By January 1, 2024, the group must submit a report to the Legislature with recommendations on potential laws and best practices to mitigate these threats before the committee dissolves.
