An Act honoring, empowering, and recognizing our servicemembers and veterans

This bill honors and recognizes Massachusetts servicemembers and veterans by updating state laws to include the Space Force and clarifying administrative structures. It mandates that the state flag be flown at half-staff for fallen active-duty members, repatriated prisoners of war, and on National POW/MIA Recognition Day. The legislation also establishes new observances for United States Merchant Marine Day and United States Space Force Day, requiring the governor to issue annual proclamations. Additionally, the bill expands eligibility for childcare services on military installations to include facilities under the Department of Defense and Coast Guard, and ensures military-connected students are included in relevant state programs. Finally, it modifies retirement system rules to provide credit for active military service to members who pay required makeup contributions.
