An Act addressing the requirement that multi-family districts in MBTA communities be within 0.5 miles of a commuter rail station, subway station, ferry terminal or bus station
This bill amends state zoning laws to require municipalities in MBTA communities to designate a specific multi-family housing district within 0.5 miles of a major transit hub. The designated area must allow for at least 15 housing units per acre and be suitable for families with children, without age restrictions. If a town fails to meet these requirements, it will lose eligibility for several state housing and infrastructure funding programs. Additionally, the Department of Housing and Community Development will work with the MBTA and the Department of Transportation to create guidelines for verifying compliance.
