An Act protecting the health and safety of people in restaurants

This bill requires restaurants that serve food on-site to have at least one employee trained in approved manual procedures for removing food lodged in a person's throat. The law mandates that these establishments display a poster instructing customers on how to assist someone who is choking and obtain liability insurance to cover their trained staff. Take-out only restaurants and food trucks are explicitly excluded from these requirements. Additionally, the bill provides legal protection for employees who act in good faith to help a choking person, shielding them from civil lawsuits. Local health boards will be responsible for notifying restaurants of these new obligations and distributing information about certified training.
