An Act relative to outstanding fines, fees, penalties, or costs related to the use of fireworks or pyrotechnics in the city of Springfield
This bill allows the City of Springfield to impound vehicles belonging to people who fail to pay fines for fireworks violations. Under the new rules, if an outstanding fine is not paid within 14 days of a demand notice, the city tax collector can issue a warrant. If the debt remains unpaid after 30 days, the Springfield Police Department may remove and store the vehicle for up to 22 days after notice. If the vehicle is not claimed or the owner refuses to pay after receiving a written notice, the police may sell the vehicle at a public auction to cover the unpaid costs.
